| Lackawaxen-Shohola Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) |
The Lackawaxen and Shohola Township Citizens Advisory Committee desire to preserve and enhance the quality of life,
encourage beneficial growth and development, effectively establish public infrastructure integral to achieving the
prior and future objectives, and enhance local land use and development regulations. Over the next several months,
Lackawaxen Township and Shohola Township will be preparing a Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan. The Townships will be working
collaboratively with the Pike County Office of Community Planning (PCCP) and the community to develop the plan. In order to
provide guidance to the planning consultant, the Townships have created a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The
CAC will meet monthly with a representative of the PCCP and planning consultant to conduct activities associated
with preparation of the Multi-Municipality Comprehensive Plan and Multi-Municipality Open Space, Greenways and
Recreation Plan. CAC meetings are open to the public. The public may participate as observers and provide comments/input
at the end of each meeting. Public meetings designed specifically for the community will be scheduled and announced separately.

| What is a Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan? |
A multi-municipal comprehensive plan is a plan developed by more than one municipality. The plan addresses a variety of community
issues such as land use, transportation, housing, natural and historic resources, and community facilities and services. The plan
addresses current conditions and desired future conditions by identifying strategies to manage growth through techniques such as
preservation and conservation, designation of future growth areas and rural resource areas and identification of non-residential
uses to insure an adequate tax base and provisions for appropriate public facilities. The plan will include short-term and long-term
implementation strategies for the next 20 years. The plan will provide the basis for development and/or update of a variety of
ordinances including, but not limited to, the Townships' Zoning Ordinances and Zoning Maps and Subdivision and Land Development
Ordinances.
|
| What is a Multi-Municipal Open Space, Greenways and Recreation Plan? |
The plan will be developed for Lackawaxen and Shohola Townships. The Plan will consider the needs and desires of each Township
as well as the area as a region. The plan will identify needs and opportunities for establishment of public and private open
space, greenways and recreation facilities and programs. The plan will be developed to be consistent with the multi-municipal
comprehensive plan. The plan will identify opportunities to connect public open space and recreation facilities using greenways.
A greenway is generally a linear corridor either private or publicly owned which provides public access to allow for the movement
between public open spaces, recreation facilities, and a variety of attractions within the community. Many greenways will remain
privately owned with no public access. These private greenways offer areas permanently preserved and conserved for wildlife habitats and environmentally
sensitive areas.
